SBI authorised to issue, encash Electoral Bonds from Oct 19-28

Government has extended the current concessional rate of 40 per cent discount on cargo movement between India and Chabahar Port in Iran  for a period of one year.
Shipping Ministry said, the discount will apply for the coastal movement of cargo and vessel related charges, being handled at Jawaharlal Nehru Port and Deendayal Port to Shahid Beheshti Port, Chabahar.The levy of concessional vessel related charges is to be applied proportionately, subject to vessel loading at least five thousand tonnes cargo to Shahid Beheshti Port. The ports in coordination with Indian Ports Global Limited will jointly evolve a Standard Operating Procedure to ensure that discounts are given to cargo actually discharged or loaded at Shahid Beheshti Terminal of Chabahar Port.

-India on Friday hosted the virtual Summit of Ministers of Justice of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, SCO.Addressing the Ministers of Justice from SCO Member States, Law and Justice Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad highlighted the initiatives taken by the Indian Government for providing affordable and easy access to justice for all.He mentioned about Pro Bono Legal Services to provide free legal aid to marginalized sections of the society. Prasad highlighted that through Tele-Law services initiated in 2017, so far over three lakh 44 thousand free legal consultations have been given to poor people through video conference. He said, during COVID19 pandemic over 25 Lakh hearings have taken place through video conference at various courts of India, out of which nine thousand virtual hearings took place at the Supreme Court alone.
As part of activities of Justice Ministers’ Forum, the Minister urged SCO Member States to promote exchange of ideas, best practices and experiences in identified areas through the platform. He also stressed on widening the spectrum of activities being undertaken in the Forum.

-The Ministry of Finance has said that the State Bank of India (SBI), in the 14th Phase of sale, has been authorised to issue and encash Electoral Bonds through its 29 Authorized Branches with effect from 19th October  to  28th of October this year. Electoral Bonds will  be valid for fifteen calendar days from the date of issue and no payment will be made to any payee Political Party if the Electoral Bond is deposited after expiry of the validity period. The Ministry said, the Electoral Bond deposited by an eligible Political Party in its account will be credited on the same day.It  said, Election Commission of India  has accorded ‘No objection’ from Model Code of Conduct (MCC) angle with conditions that no political functionary will make any reference in this regard during any public speech or communication to the press or public in the constituencies going for poll and the relevant provisions of MCC willl be strictly followed.The Government had notified the Electoral Bond Scheme in 2018.

-The Central Bureau of Investigation has recovered various incriminating documents,  bank accounts, fixed deposits worth 190 crore rupees and  cash of 25 lakh rupees during searches conducted recently  at various locations including Jaipur, Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad and Mainpuri of Uttar Pradesh.The searches were conducted at the premises of private companies and residential premises of accused persons in an on-going investigation of a case related to technical fraud. A case was registered on a complaint against six private companies and  other unknown persons, alleged to be involved in technical support fraud scheme. The companies are  New Delhi-based Softwill Infotech and Saburi TLC Worldwide Services,  Jaipur-based Innovana Think labs and Systweak Software , Noida-based Benovellient Technologies and Gurugram-based Saburi Global Services Private Limited.It was alleged that these companies would contact the victims via internet pop-up messages that falsely appear to be security s from Microsoft or another well-known company. These companies would then take remote access of the victim’s computer and convince the victim of presence of non-existing problems and then would make them pay hundreds of Dollars for unnecessary services and softwares.  CBI is collaborating with its counterparts in other countries to identify the network, dismantle their infrastructure and bring the perpetrators of crime to justice. US Department of Justice and CBI collaborated in this regard, and yesterday US Federal court ordered an individual and 5 companies to stop engaging in technical-support fraud scheme that is alleged to have defrauded hundreds of elderly and vulnerable U.S. victims. The Agency in a statement said it has been making concerted efforts to identify and rapidly dismantle any such network of transnational cyber frauds operated out of India.

-The Calcutta High Court has directed the community Durga Puja organisers in the state to spend 75 percent of the Rs 50,000 grant given by the West Bengal government on the procurement of COVID protection equipment and the rest on strengthening public-policing bonding.A division bench comprising justices Sanjib Banerjee and Arijit Banerjee directed that the money given by the state to the Durga Puja committees cannot be for any other purpose, and purchase bills have to be submitted to the authorities for audit.Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had announced on September 24 grant of Rs 50,000  for each of the 36,946 Durga Puja committees in the state.
