President appoints vice chancellors of 12 central universities

In Gujarat, week-long celebrations will be organized under strict Covid 19 guidelines next month to mark the completion of Chief Minister Vijay Rupani’s five years in office. As per an Official release, August 1 will be celebrated as “Gyanshakti Diwas”, during which the education-related programmes will be organsied, while “Samvedna Diwas” will be observed on August 2, when the state will help citizens get necessary forms and documents related to various government schemes. Women-centric events will be held on August 4, which will be celebrated as “Nari Gaurav Diwas”, various events will be held for farmers on “Kisan Sanman Diwas” on August 5.The state government will organise job fairs and other events aimed at providing employment to the youth on August 6, while the next two days will be celebrated as “Vikas Diwas” and “Shaheri Jan Sukhakari Diwas” to strengthen urban infrastructure and amenities. Since August 9 is celebrated as Adivasi Diwas in the country, developmental programmes will be held in tribal areas of the state on that day.

-Three NDRF teams have been deployed in the wake of Red alert issued by Met officials in Telangana. The Met officials issued red alert of heavy to very heavy rain likely for next 2 days in Adilabad, Asifabad and Manchiryal districts and orange alerts for mainly central and Northern districts of the state. Telangana State Disaster Management Commissioner, Rahul Bojja informed our Correspondent that about Five hundred people from Low lying areas in Nirmal district have been evacuated for safe locations. He further said three Helicopters have been sought from the Indian Air Force to keep them as stand-by. He also said the local authorities and disaster management forces have rescued about 20 people, who were trapped in flood water in different parts of the state.

-Defence Minister Rajnath Singh flagged-in the Indian Army Skiing Expedition, ARMEX-21, in New Delhi on Friday. The ARMEX-21 was conducted in the mountain ranges of the Himalayan region to promote the adventure activity in the country and the Indian Army. The expedition was flagged off at Karakoram Pass in Ladakh on 10th March and culminated at Malari in Uttarakhand on 6th of July.Speaking on the occasion, Rajnath Singh congratulated the team on the successful completion of the challenging expedition and lauded them for their courage and resilience. Terming the expedition as extraordinary, he said not only did the team completed a thrilling journey, but also conducted an operational recce of the region. The Defence Minister commended the courage, dedication and spirit of the Armed Forces and expressed satisfaction that the safety and security of the country is in safe hands. He exuded confidence that the success of ARMEX-21 will inspire a new generation of adventurers across the nation.

- President Ram Nath Kovind, who is the Visitor to Central universities, has approved the appointment of vice chancellors in 12 varsities, The newly appointed vice chancellors include Tankeshwar Kumar (Central University of Haryana), Prakash Bansal (Central university of Himachal Pradesh), Sanjeev Jain (Central university of Jammu), Kshitij Bhusan Das (Central university of Jharkhand), Battu Satyanarayana (Central University of Karnataka), Muthukalingan Krishnan (Central University of Tamil Nadu) and Basuthkar J Rao (Central University of Hyderabad). Kameshwar Nath Singh (Central University of South Bihar); Prabha Shankar Shukla, North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong; Alok Kumar Chakrawal (Guru Ghasidas University, Bilaspur) ; Syed Ainul Hasan, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) and Lokender Singh, Manipur Universit.

-Several parts of Goa, including Sattari and Bicholim tehsils in north and Dharbandora in south, are reeling under a flood-like situation, where a large number of houses got inundated as the water level of some rivers rose following heavy rains over the past few days, officials said on Friday. However, no loss of human life has been reported so far due to it, they said. At least 100 houses in Sattari tehsil have been under water since Thursday night as the water level of the Mahadayi river increased due to incessant rains that has been lashing the state since over a week now, a senior official said. There were no fatalities, but flood-like situation exists. Those people whose houses have gone completely under water have shifted to safer places on their own, he said. Almost half of Velus village located near Valpoi town in Sattari, is inundated, while several other villages were cut off as roads and culverts are under water, eyewitnesses said. The state fisheries department has already issued a warning to local fishermen, asking them not to venture out into the sea due to gusty winds.

-West Bengal's COVID-19 toll rose to 18,056 on Friday after 16 more people succumbed to the virus, the health department said in a bulletin.The coronavirus tally shot up to 15,22,103 with 842 fresh cases, it said.The state now has 12,289 active cases, while 14,91,958 people have recovered from the disease, including 942 since Thursday.In the last 24 hours, 48,843 samples have been tested in West Bengal, taking the total number of such clinical examinations to 1,53,76,361, the bulletin said. Meanwhile, 3,33,709 people were vaccinated in the state on Friday, a health department official said.
